RESEARCH AND EXTENSION

In coordination with RUPID conduct their respective Research Fora. The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) and College of Architecture (CArch), College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD), College of Home Economics (CHE) and the College of Physical Education Recreation and Sports (CPERS) and College of Islamic and Asian (CAIS) in coordination with the Center for Research Utilization, Publication and Information Dissemination (RUPID) held their respective College Research Fora. During the four (4) research fora, the Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (RDE), Dr. Roberto B. Torres, and the Dean for Research Development and Evaluation Center (RDEC) Dr. Chona Q. Sarmiento, gave the inspirational talk and the R&D Updates of the University, respectively. The following were the presenters during the Research Fora of CET-CArch, CSWCD, CHE and CPERSCAIS.

A 2-day Training-Workshop on Test Construction and Measurement for the faculty of the College of Engineering and Technology was held lat September 18-19, 2014 at 3rd Floor AVR CET, WMSU. Dr. Roberto B. Sala, Dean, welcomed the 78 faculty who actively participated the training. The two (2) resource speakers during the said training were Prof. Ricardo G. Elizalde, Technical Associate of the Quality Assurance Office and Dr. Lourdes B. Filoteo, Chair of the CSM Graduate Department. Prof. Elizalde discussed the following topics: Test and its Purpose; Teacher Made Test Objective Type, Essay Type; and Developing a Scoring Rubric. On the other hand, Dr. Filoteo discussed the following topics: Test and its Purpose; Writing Instructional Objectives; Development of Table of Specifications (TOS); Administering, Analyzing and Improving the Written Test; and Item Analysis. The said 2-day training was spearheaded by the Center for Continuing Education headed by its director, Dr. Raquel Tomasa Ho and training. The department of Civil Engineering of the College of Engineering and Technology conducted a research on PUJ Operators and Drivers Assessment on knowledge of sustainable practices, which led to the Community organization for the promotion of sustainable practices in the transport sector (2015-2019).

The expected output of the said research will be:

Improved transport technology, reduced traffic violations improved community perception towards public transport providers.

The College of Engineering and Technology Research and Extension Program of Western Mindanao State University conducted a research on the post-harvest needs in Barangays Manicahan and Sangali, Zamboanga City. The review of process flow in rice production and assessment of potential technical support to improve quality process flow problems; generation of solution to improve process as their project proposals. After thus, the Grains Kiln Dryer Facility was constructed courtesy of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the the said college, and later on transferred the technology to the local farmers of Brg. Manicahan The project is expected to help improved the quality of rice grain to be higher during induced harvest due to inclement weather.
